The Barnsley 10k has been organised by the athletic club in a variety of forms over the years, famously taking place in the town centre attracting a whole host of high profile runners, whilst being known as the famous Barnsley 6 which ran up Old Mill Lane twice. Then moving more recently to Royston and now in its most recent form using a course at Grimethorpe adopting the name The Barnsley 10k.
