Barnsley Road Runners kept the local flag flying at Rockingham Athletic Club’s new look ten- mile road race staged last Sunday.
The Road Runners had three men in the first 25 across the line to clinch the third team prize behind Hallamshire Harriers and Sheffield A.C.
It was the only real success for local clubs on a day otherwise dominated by visiting athletes.
Race winner was the strongly fancied Robert Harrison from Airedale and Spen Valley. He completed the nine miles, 660 yards course in 50 minutes, 4 seconds.
Eddie McKenzie led the Road Runners challenge, finishing tenth in 51 min, 48 sec.
Their second scorer was Dave Bennett, running it in 53.24 for 23rd place and Peter Gledhill completing the trio, finishing in 25th place in 53.33.
The Road Runner’s Andrew Rose was the first local boy home in the Youths’ four mile race, finishing seventh in 22.35.
