10K RACE REPORT

The BARNSLEY 10K was run this year in wet and windy conditions making the going particularly tough on the return leg of the race. This year also saw the introduction of CHIP finishing timing which seemed to work for most runners providing instant personal results on the finish line (if anyone is not included in the results please contact the Webmaster and you will be manually inserted).

Carl Ryde of Doncaster AC was on top form again when he returned to defend his title in a time of 32.30. Although Carl was in invloved in a car accident on his way to the event he was determined to run. Carl shared the lead with Armand Bush in the early stages until around the two mile mark when his recent form proved too good. Armand finished in second place with club-mate Darren Newbold taking third place.

The ladies race was dominated by local runner Helen Singleton running for Wakefield Harriers in a time of36.55.Bridgett Coomber of Denby Dale took second place and Jacqui Dews of Holmfirth in third.

The Mens Team prize was taken by Hallmashire with Bush, Newbold and Sprot. The Ladies prize was succesfully defended by the Holmfirth Team with Dews,Ewart and Sinkinson.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped as usual before and on race day.

Apologies to anyone experience difficulties at the start comments have been noted and the Start area will be made more obvious for next year. Chip timing will be expanded to cover the start next year and the finish area will be lengthened to minmise congestion.
